Department of Adapted Physical Education
Core Courses：
The core courses include general courses, general education courses, special education courses, and adapted physical education courses. In order to serve the needs of nearly one million people with disabilities in Taiwan, the Department is preparing our students to become adapted physical education teachers, coaches for adapted sports competitions, managers for adapted sports, and elite athletes with disabilities.
Graduate Institute of Adapted Physical Education
The graduate institute was established to educate sport teachers, coaches, and researchers for the disabled people. As Taiwan’s first and only graduate institute specializing in sports and leisure activities for the disabled, it would improve rights of sports for over one million people with disabilities and benefit their overall health. As the government’s polices have emphasized rights of care and education for the disabled, the establishment of the graduate institute is important and necessary.
The Institute has developed the goals as follows:
1. To educate sport and leisure activity coaches for the disabled people.
2. To conduct related academic research.
3. To provide the disabled, the elderly, and temporal disabled people with sport and leisure service.
4. To promote sport activities for the disabled.
The educational objectives of the Institute are as follows:
1. To educate coaches and academic researchers for the disabled.
2. To conduct research related to sports for the disabled people.
3. To improve teachers’ quality in school for pupils of special needs.
4. To coach disable athletes to take part in contests.
5. To follow national education policies.
6. To improve the quality of research related to sports for the disabled.
7. To adjust to the international trends of sport education.
The core courses include advanced study of adapted physical education, seminar in adapted physical education, advanced sports medicine, leisure activities for the disabled, sports diagnosis and prescription for the disabled, kinetics: learning and control, study of Health and physical fitness for the disabled, practicum, and independent study.
